I am a retired software engineer who is now reviving his former hobby of building electronics. Back in the day I used to draw the etching masks of my PCBs with strips of black tape and a sharpie before etching them with ferric chloride which left stains everywhere. Now this job is done with the help of KiCad and external manufacturers.

In the decades since I last held a soldering iron there have been tremendous changes in the electronics industry and I was (and am still) curious if I could master all the skills required to build a modern electronics project using SMD components, MCUs, FPGAs and all the other fascinating things which have come up since then.

This blog is about some of the projects I built and am building and other related topics which may be interesting to someone else besides me. Before starting on electronics again I have been inspired by reading blogs of other developers and by viewing countless videos on YouTube. The idea of this blog is to share some of the thoughts which went into my projects hoping that they in turn may inspire the one or two who are patient enough to read my posts.
